Altecnic’s HIU awarded double water safe certification
Altecnic’s ground-breaking and multi-award winning range of heat interface units have been awarded the plumbing industry’s highest potable water safety accreditations.
As part of its commitment to raising standards across the industry and encouraging compliance, Altecnic’s marketing-leading SATK20, SATK30 and SATK40 heat interface units have been awarded WRAS and KIWA approval.
Commenting on the HIU’s latest accreditations, Gary Perry, Managing Director said: “HIU’s provide potable water to the end-user therefore every HIU available on the UK market should have potable water approval by an approved and respected trade body. However, unfortunately this isn’t the case and many HIU units are currently unaccredited and therefore non-compliant. Non-accredited HIU’s have the potential to contaminate potable water supplies which obviously is a major concern for landlords, local authorities and housing associations. It’s essential to check that HIU’s are suitable for potable water use and the best way to do this is by the industry standard third party certification from WRAS or KIWA and that the product is listed in the water fittings and materials directory before they are installed.”
As well as receiving full WRAS and KIWA approvals, Altecnic’s SATK20 and SATK30 are now prepayment compatible. Quick and easy to install, the prepayment system and HIU system can be quickly and easily installed at the same time or retrofitted without costly plumbing modifications.
Designed with installers and landlords in mind, the integration of a prepay system offers multiple benefits to both consultants and landlords. Using upgraded HIU firmware and an additional connection on the integral controller which allows for direct wiring, or via an optional module, Altecnic’s HIU can connect to any third party prepayment system. When in operation, the primary system is isolated by the existing integral ‘intelligent’ electronic control valves, which eliminates the need for external motorised valves. Installation costs are minimised as the external motorised valve does not have to be specified and installed, making it easier to fit with fewer joints and potential leak paths.
Offering landlords ultimate control, the HIU’s are also installed behind a tamper-proof lockable and insulated cover. If the system is in credit, the HIU heating control valves provide stable hot water temperatures and control individual apartment’s heating. However, if the system runs out of credit, or the landlord needs to isolate hot water or domestic heating, the control valves can be closed. As soon as credit is restored, the valves automatically return to their normal function.
